new "magic trick" from Sony Tech Support

My gf's PRS600 had an odd lockup error -

while reading a PDF, an attempt to resize the font locked up her reader - even power off and reset buttons had no effect.

The gentleman at Sony Support offered this solution, which seemed to work:

press in and hold the reset button. while the reset is being pressed, cycle the power switch 5 times.

Don't forget the part about jumping on one foot while patting your head with one hand and your belly with the other, while chewing gum under a full moon on the second Wednesday of a month without an "R" in it in the southern hemisphere while visiting Marc poolside in farking Spring after paying $300 to the laddy by the door. No problem.

I know it sounds like Voodoo magic but it's not. Most reset buttons now and days only do what's called a 'soft resets' they don't completely initialize all of the hardware in order to speed up boot time. This is not an issue most of the time but in some times the only fix is a real 'hard reboot' where the entire system gets initialized. Many hardware vendors hide this functionality from the average users but provide the means to do this to their tech support. That is why they require the operator to do a series of odd button presses. Think of them like Easter eggs for software.

If I fall down while doing this, do I have to start over?

Or try to sue Sony because you injured yourself complying with one of their tech support people's instructions?
