Anyone successfully run Android on their A81 MID?

Has anyone successfully run Android on the A81? I found the Android image on this site

http://www.jiongtang.com/blog/html/d...a81-w1060.html

and a video demonstrating how to boot it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MZzS1ARNaU

I havent had the time to try it out yet. Currently the Wifi, BT, and Sound does not work yet and is still in Beta form.

I've pretty much stop using this device since I can't get any useful applications running on this thing. I regret buying this device more and more the longer it takes for android to be released.

Oh come on Wits start releasing the beta in English! Looks like they already have a new version along with a new patch!

Hi, Tekka. It was my understanding that all the Android versions had a way to change which language they were running - if that's the case, perhaps you could download and try the new (Chinese) beta to see how it works?

I was supposed to get my A81 (from JTShop) with the latest Android, but when it arrived last week, not only was there no Android - they didn't even have the 2GB SD card with the unit I planned to install it myself, but I don't like the idea of having to download some (unknown) "file transfer software" before I can pull down the image. Is there somewhere you know of to get the latest image?

Here's the links to the WinCe images.

http://www.wirelession.com/

http://www.witstech.com.cn/index_en.html

Is there some other page that is available to get an android image?

I've found that if you poke around the wistech site, and can actually get to the forum (it was down many of the times I tried it, but it's working now: http://translate.google.com/translat...sl=zh-CN&tl=en) you can find a link to the download - look for, in particular, the topic "CE Android dual system drive and install the USB PC connection software tools ". BUT all the links are to file sharing sites that require you to download their clients, and I'm not really keen on that...

Well, in the interest of science, I decided to try it anyway. The link to the rayfile location appears to be dead; the link to the namipan site works (you have to look at the NON-google-translated page to see the actual download choice - and you have to be a good guesser, as well, unless you read Chinese). But although I've got the namipan client software installed, and it thinks it's got the link to the download, I can't get it to actually _start_ downloading

If a Chinese reader were to try that link I posted (or this one, which is in the original without the Google translation), and actually, successfully, download the firmware, I bet I could find somewhere to host it for the English-speaking community...?

Looking at the witstech bbs, it seems the latest Android image can also be found here:

http://www.namipan.com/d/android_032...1a0ecf59121f53

Note that, like Rayfile, Namipan seems to require its own special client to do the download. I've not been able to get it to work properly, but if you succeed in getting the download, I'd love to try and find somewhere to host it that's more accessible to English speakers.

Although this beta is only posted on the Chinese board, I believe it's possible to configure Android on start-up to run in English - though I imagine some knowledge of Chinese would be a real plus...

Android is in multi-language. It starts with English and can be configured to display in other languages.

I have a copy of that latest A81 android image and see if I can find a place to upload that for you guys to try. Or if you can suggest a site for uploading!

The improvement in this alpha/beta version is that it comes with a virtual keyboard and can also shut down properly by pressing the "Power" key for 3 seconds. A few more android programme can be installed in this version. That's it!

@bryanzs
Ditto, I'm unable to succeed downloading the client side installer

@htklee888
Great! May you kindly upload the file back to DepositFiles/Megaupload?
Or just Multiupload would do the trick.
Does screen rotation, Wifi and Bluetooth work in the version?

HTKlee888 can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that wifi and bluetooth are still not enabled in this release.

Yes, I would like to try it. I'm glad they have fixed the shutdown problem.

I agree, something like Megaupload might be the place to put it.

I don't know if you've already applied it, but it looks like there might also be a patch on the witstech bbs for the latest android. I was hoping to post a link right to that posting, but I can't see how to do it, sorry - look for the posting that (in Google-translated English) has the title "Improve the Beta Version of the Android System" on the "Firmware Release Area" section of the bbs.

The latest android would only work together with the patch that Witstech supplied. I'll get that uploaded at the same time.

No WIFI, bluetooth, etc. yet! That's why I said it should be something like alpha/beta version!!

You guys have to wait until sometime when I'm free to do the uploading.

At least it's good to see that Wistech is still working on it.

Of course, when you have the time, just let us know that it is uploaded.

Thanks!

Android image:
http://depositfiles.com/files/x9us5za9z

Patch:
http://depositfiles.com/files/5srhpzdpe

Use Winhex to clone the image to a 2G TF card. (See Jtworld message and video on 11 April 2010 in this forum)
Replace file "UImage" on the TF card with that contained in the patch.
Put TF card back and press "Reset"+"Power" at the same time. "See JTworld video in this forum)

Enjoy!
