calibre won't add books
i deleted my entire library and when i wanted to add newbooks even one book takes way too long. i get error adding failed .the add books process seems to be hung.try restarting calibre and adding books in smaller increments until you find the problem book. i add a single book and get the same response.

The first thing that comes to mind is how did you delete the "entire library"? Because if you used standard OS file management, then calibre could be looking for a folder that was deleted.

It does not see your device (or any other USB device) as a drive or MTP device. Is it a tablet or phone that is now locked? If you were just starting up Calibre, where was the Old Library? |

Shortcut key is CTRL+SHIFT+R. (Note to self: Option not there when you are already IN debug mode, no wonder I couldn't find it at first. ) (Yes, I scripted it to always start in debug mode. I had to hardcode the non-debug version into a command-line prompt so I could check the option. ) Last edited by eschwartz; 08-14-2014 at 01:08 PM. |

or it has now insufficient user rights (needs full rights to all files and folders WITHIN the Library folder) |

Looks to me like calibre is expecting to find a device, and there isn't one. I'm no expert at the device features of calibre, but I thought one had to explicitly tell it to Connect to a device/folder before it would start looking for one.
If you deleted your library via your file manager then you will need to Remove it from calibre. And then you'll need to create a new library in calibre. IMO it's only then you should attempt to Connect your device or add books. I don't think calibre 'likes' not having a database on which to operate. BR |

Normal devices auto-detect and mount (unless excluded in preferences). If calibre can't find a Library, it pops a notice allowing you to specify its new location so it can attach or it creates a NEW default on |

I don't connect my Golazy Note, I only keep a few 'books' on it, which I sideload from the book folders. I don't care about odd file names, metadata etc - I use the ES file mangle.
I tell my 'customers' to Connect their readers after they start calibre and eject them before they close calibre. I do that because one of the 'early adopter' customers got into trouble doing otherwise. My 'customers' are all at least summa cum laude tech-dummies  BR |

It is a detailed log of what is happening while you use Calibre, so you can send it to the Gurus after a problem session. They might be able to see something (recoverable error message) that will give a clue |
