Sigil Problems
I am formatting a read-along children's ebook. I am trying to edit the opf.
I put in the audio totals in the metadata, everything disappeared after disappeared. The manifest was gone Plus. I copied the audio totals and pasted them. Now I have the audio files fine, but the manifest + disappeared. This is so weird. Is the audio totals suppose to be in the manifest. Do I have ghosts try to trip me up. Help, Thanks, P |

The opf is machine parsed and managed/controlled by Sigil. So direct editing of the opf is rarely needed or desired. There are tools to add and remove resources, etc. So you should not need to ever manually edit the manifest. As you "Add Existing ..." new resources to Sigil it will store them inside its standard epub structure, and automatically update the manifest. You can then edit the appropriate xhtml file to add links, etc. For epub 3, there is a tool to update the manifest properties before your final save.
Does this make things clearer? KevinH |

And how exactly were you fixing those epub validator errors?
What exactly were the error messages? How is Sigil involved? Version of Sigil and platform? |

I was using the sigil files to edit the chapters, the error messages were given as to font
ie ERROR OEBPS/Text/chapter1.htm 75 59 Error while parsing file: element "font" not allowed here; expected the element end-tag, text or element "a", "abbr", "area", "audio", "b", "bdi", "bdo", "br", "button", "canvas", "cite", "code", "command", "datalist", "del", "dfn", "em", "embed", "epub:switch", "i", "iframe", "img", "input", "ins", "kbd", "keygen", "label", "link", "map", "mark", "meta", "meter", "ns1:math", "ns2:svg", "object", "output", "progress", "q", "ruby", "s", "samp", "script", "select", "small", "span", "strong", "sub", "sup", "textarea", "time", "u", "var", "video" or "wbr" (with xmlns:ns1="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:ns2="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg") But I also edited the content.opf and toc.ncx |

Again, which platform? What version of Sigil? What were the exact errors you were trying to fix, what did you do to the content.opf and why?

And what do you exactly mean the chapters are gone? If you were doing the fixing in Sigil why did you have to open the epub again? What processed the epub *before* you loaded the epub into Sigil again?

Have you tried unzipping the epub file that you tried to load into Sigil? Copy it first before you do something silly and end up writing over the input file.
Perhaps you tried to hand edit the opf and left it in an unparseable state? |

Fortunately, I have nearly all files backed up, so I am able to rebuild the epub

Is this using Sigil's epubcheck plugin to validate or some other method?

Unless you are intimately familiar with epub structures in general, and opf syntax specifically, I wouldn't recommend manually editing the opf file.
But the error you described had to do with the invalid "font" tag in the xhtml. That wouldn't have anything to do with the OPF at all. Last edited by DiapDealer; 02-05-2020 at 09:25 AM. |
