Kindle fixed layout file size too big

I'm working on a Kindle Fixed Layout for someone, I have the pages as images cropped and dropped in html pages. The .mobi is supposed to be 323 pages but I did a draft of 150 pages and the file is already 47.3mb.

I'm aware on how to make files smaller but this is not an option as the images are the entire page and any smaller compression will make the images blurry.

So my only option is to split the book into part ONE and part TWO. SO I need to know when the client goes to unload both books is there a way for customers to buy both books at once?

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has had this problem before/

Anyone?

Just thought of something, since I have a pdf I can make it smaller from 67.8 to 29.9 and upload it as a pdf, it should work like a fixed layout an I right?

Best option is to not use pictures as the page. It isn't required for Fixed Layout.

You cannot upload PDFs, or rather you can, the same way you can upload .docx -- amazon will convert it for you.

If the book is too big, splitting it into two books will not make both together take less space than one full book.

The obvious question to ask is why on Earth you're using images for pages. It's pretty blooming obvious that this is going to result in a HUGE file!

Reason for the images is because the book was created using InDesign and there are 7 different fonts as well as artwork its almost like a comic book so the only way is to display correctly is to place images on the html pages and get the images down to a manageable file size.

Do you know of another way, I don't.

A better way to do it would be to only have the graphical components of the page as images (SVG, by choice), and position the text and graphics appropriately on the page (absolute positioning is the whole reason for using fixed layout). It's a lot more work, but you'll end up with a file which is a manageable size.

You use the fixed-layout methods provided by Amazon that other comic-book and graphic-novel creators use, I'd guess.

I don't believe Amazon let you sell PDFs in the Kindle Store, do they? May not matter if it's not intended for publication, of course.

They had/have "Print Replica" (azw4) -- which is basically a wrappered PDF. I don't think they ever opened up the process of creating/selling those to the average DIYer, though.

Why are you worried about the file size? It seems in keeping with the size of other fixed layout books in Kindle Store: they are typically 150-300MB. I realize Amazon charges per MB delivery charge but if it is the best format for your material, then it seems that's the way to go.
