Problems with converted PRC ebook
I downloaded the PRC ebook "RinkWorks: Computer Stupidities" from mobileread, ran it through calibre 0.4.108 (Windows) and put it on my PRS-500 using the Sony eBook Library software. The converted ebook loads, however each page takes about 30 seconds between requesting the next page and it actually displaying.
I am really unsure what's going on (whether this is what should be expected or not) and was wondering if someone would take a look at it since it is rather inconvenient for reading. |

There is probably something about that book that causes the generated LRF file to have a structure that requires excessive parsing. I would suggest using mobi2oeb to convert it to HTML first and see if you can clean up the HTML before converting to LRF

Ignore the segfault (it's an artifact of the freezing process to create linux binaries). The HTml will be in the indicated directory

Ok, ignored segfault. The HTML seems straightforward; just one long HTML document. No indication to my untrained eyes why it should produce such an unwieldy LRF file.

It isn't the size then. try running htmltidy on the html file and then converting it

I've converted this PRC using Calibre and loaded it on my 505 and the pages turn just fine. Take a look at the copy I've attached.

Transferred it to the PRS-500 using Calibre. Ok, now we have isolated the problem to the PRS-500. 31 seconds between page turns! No idea why.

I've just loaded this on the 500 and I've found that it takes about 30 or so seconds per page turn.

mobi2lrf --chapter-attr="h3,none," --add-chapters-to-toc --top-margin=0 --left-margin=0 --right-margin=0 --bottom-margin=0 --wordspace=1 --base-font-size=10 ComputerStupidities.prc
That is the command that worked to get this to work on the 500. The problem I think was that it was one large page and the 500 cannot easily handle a single page that's too large. |
