kindle download
Hello. I have bought an mobipocket encyclopedia, have sent it to Kindle 2.3, progress bar moves from left to right, message says:"successfully sent".
Unfortunately the book has not transferred to Kindle. I have tried several times with no luck. Mobipocket does not seem to reply to repeated emails. Can anyone help me?

If this is a book that you've bought from the Mobipocket eBook store, it won't work on the Kindle. Mobipocket DRM (ie, the method by which the book is encrypted, so that only you can read it) won't work on the Kindle, I'm afraid.

To Harry. That sounds like a swindle to me. When I bought this book, there was nothing to indicate it would not work on Kindle (that I could see),the download process was shown, successful transfer was shown. I would like a refund, Can you advise me how to go about this?

Hi everyone! I have just one question and I thought it would be appropriate to ask here. I want to buy the new Kindle, but I don't want to buy books from Amazon, I have pdf and epub books that I want to read on the Kindle, I don't know anything about this DRM, the majority of these books I got from a teacher and I assume that he downloaded these books from the net. I can convert the books in mobi with Calibre. Will I be able to read these books on the Kindle, or should I go with another ebook reader?

Yes, the mobi files that Calibre generates are readable on the Kindle. The quality of converted PDFs can vary from good to unusable.

but I can just transfer the pdf's to the kindle and read them without converting, right? what about that DRM protection?

Kindle only works with non-DRM'd Mobipocket format books, anything purchased from Mobipocket.com is going to be incompatible.

If there's DRM then they won't work. I assumed, since you said they were downloaded from the net and given to you, that there's no DRM involved.

PDF viewing on the Kindle was disappointing for me personally, because the text is too small, but that will vary depending on your eyesight and the particular PDF. Viewing PDFs in landscape works fairly well even with my poor eyesight.

There's no "swindle"; I'm afraid it's your responsibility to ensure that you buy a book that's suitable for your device, and nowhere at Mobipocket will you find a claim that such books can be read on a Kindle. You could try asking for a refund, but legally you don't have a leg to stand on, I'm afraid. Regard it as a lesson to check the format before buying.
