Calibre launch failure

I was using Calibre for several days without any problems when it suddenly stopped working. Some specifics:
  • I launch Calibre. The initial splash screen shows up for a fraction of a second -- just long enough to be visible -- and then it disappears. The normal Calibre interface never shows up.
  • I opened taskmanager and I see that the image "calibre.exe" is running. I kill it and try to restart -- same result.
  • I rebooted to ensure a clean system -- same problem.
  • I uninstalled the version I was running (0.7.9) and installed the latest version (0.7.10) -- same problem.

Not sure what is happening. I am running windows XP SP3 on a laptop. My ebook reader is a Kindle, but it is not connected to the laptop when these problems happen.

Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated -- thanks!

Marc

I renamed "gui.py" to "gui.py.save", restarted calibre and it looks like things are working. Thanks for suggesting the debug mode.

Update to my post: I see that a new "gui.py" was automatically generated. It contains readable content when viewed in emacs. The saved version contains "junk" when viewed in emacs. I'm guessing that somehow my gui.py file was corrupted.

Glad you got it working. gui.py contains GUI related configuration information, so you may have lost a few settings.
