This is correct. Roku has been streaming HD for years -- on devices which are 1/5 the speed of the Roku 3 which is 1/3 the speed of the Fire TV. Pundits have cheered the speed with which Roku 3 users were able to scroll the menus. While the FTV has a more demanding user interface, the faster processor will matter most in other applications -- games, email clients, facebook, and office suites. All of these make more sense when you can pair keyboards and game controllers.

Have you seen the teardown? There is a LOT of heat sink in the case. That's part of the reason for the 1 yr warranty (vs 90 days for the Roku).

Try to find a Blu-ray on the store shelves now you cant find any that streams Amazon. I been looking for a month. O a few say they do but get them home & Nope No Amazon!

There was a recent firmware update that was supposed to have fixed it.

Anyway it was just an example. She originally talked about streaming devices and I was just giving some examples of stuff out there such as Roku. My Panasonic bluray players work great with Amazon so between that and Roku I haven't had to look much farther at this time.

LOL No they DONT they Do have a pretty Amazon Pic on the boxes but Don't stream Amazon. I purchased 1 for my son last month ALL he wanted for his Bday got it home no streaming back it went we been thru 4 in the past 5 weeks! Now Amazon comes out with this! Explains WHY they Blocked streaming on the Blue-Rays! They want to force people who got their movies to buy their players! GGRRRR
Have fun folks when your gizmos for streaming breaks! Cause that's what happened to my sons Blu-Ray player!

my Roku has been one of the most reliable devices I've ever owned. There's not much to it, after all. My guess is the warranty is more of a business decision than a reflection of reliability. If anything, the more complicated Fire TV probably needs a better warranty, since there is a bit more that can potentially go wrong, though still not much.

I don't think this has anything to do with the Amazon announcement. I bought my SMP-N200s because they did Netflix plus Amazon. I have Rokus because they do Netflix plus Amazon. I just bought the Amazon Fire TV because it does Netflix plus Amazon. None of my BD players have done Amazon.

If you are looking for a BD player that streams Amazon Instant, Amazon has a list of them. It's not short and includes four 2014 models and eleven 2013 models...

Warranty is ALWAYS a business decision. I asked why we do not increase the lease on computers from three years to four. The reason? MTBF is 2.65 years. On average, a leased computer will suffer a catastrophic failure within 2.65 years. If Roku or Apple were confident their devices would last more than 90 days they would increase the warranty and put a big sticker on the box advertising that fact. Where do you think all those refurbs come from?
