Firmware Update what version kindle do I have?

I received a kindle as a gift and I have no idea whether it is a kindle 1 or 2.
How can I find this out? I would like to know this to see if I should update my firmware.

If your kindle has a tiny wheel, it is a 1. If it has a tiny joystick, it is a 2.

To add more confusion: If the Kindle2 is somewhat old it also comes in a US and an international version. I am not sure on how to see which it is. But for a while now there has not been any US-specific version, so if it is new it is the international one.

If it's an international version, it's definitely a Kindle 2. There was no international K1.

If it is a Kindle 2 and the serial starts with B002 it is the US version... If it starts with B003 it is the Kindle 2 International
