Borders' Sony Promotion

Stopped by the Borders in Waikele, Hawaii today and got a chance to see the Sony PRS-650 in black (the only color they will be having in the stores). I spent some time educating one of their ebook specialists and the store manager regarding the features (and getting to see for myself how great the screen is and how light the touch needed to use the touch screen. I REALLY like the IR touchscreen.

Now to the Promotion: Borders is selling both the PRS-350 and the PRS-650 for the standard prices posted by Sony, but will be throwing in the lighted covers at no cost! Got that from the manager when I told her I wanted to buy a PRS-650. The promotion starts on Sunday, October 17th and runs through the week. She also told me that they sold out of their first shipment of PRS-350s in only a couple of days, so I put my PRS-650 on hold for tomorrow.

Since I was planning on buying the lighted cover for the PRS-650 anyway, the promotion is a really good deal and reduces the two new Sonys to more competitive total prices.

Thank you for the heads up. I purchased my Sony Reader just last week. My local Borders allowed me to "exchange" it to get the promotion for the cover. All they asked was that I bring in the receipt and box for the bar code scanning. I was in and out in a few minutes with a new cover.

Also got the email this morning! I had been checking my local Border's, they never had anything but the PRS-350. (Already have one.) I was there when the store opened, and got my 650 and lighted cover! Hooray!

Just got it set up - it was already almost fully charged. Love it! The screen is so much brighter and clearer than my 600, which I've "loaned" to a friend.

Thanks for the heads up. There is nothing I could find on the Borders website, but I went in the Borders in Vegas this morning. The manager knew about the deal. They only had two 650 covers in stock, and I got one of them. It is a great device. I'm just kind of sad my 900 for which I paid 399 less than a year ago is now obsolete.

Borders here knew nothing about the free offer but they honored the email I had printed and gave me the cover after searching the "back room" and finally finding one. They did not have the covers on display. I had purchased the 650 from them last week.

My store said that they never got any cases in stock, didn't know about the promotion, and had none on order. They said that there was nothing that they would do for me. I'm currently waiting for a reply from their corporate office.

Now you tell me, after buying a reader, sending it back because its DOA and ordering the cover so they would be back together, Whats next by the time I get all that done the 950 will be available, I have the worst timing

What list were you signed up for to get this lovely e-mail?

I just signed up for the general Border's e-mail list hoping that is the correct one. Our small city only has one Borders location about 45 minutes away from where I live, but this would be worth the trip. And of course there is the small problem that they have not yet had a 650 units in stock and I want that one.

I believe that is the one I signed for. I also opened a Borders account (linked from their main page) and that may generate the emails. They send out one or two emails a week.

The Borders brick store I use is in Keene, NH. Small town. They have the 350 and 650 in stock but only the 350 is on display.

I just bought my prs-650 on the phone with Sony yesterday. I called to day and they said if I could show them the e-mail they would include the cover at no charge. Would one of you please forward me the email?

I got it in my e-mail from the Borders Rewards program. It was a part of their regular flyer on Saturday/Sunday.
