Sticky for reading recommendations | Book Review sticky
Hi MobileRead Mods,
There has been several really good threads on reading recommendation for particular genre's. There has been Fantasy, SF, Western and now one of History. As a MobilreRead member I've found these threads to be informative and very useful often revisiting them for a good recommendation. I wonder if other members would find value making 1) Making the thread sticky 2) Have a sticky with just eBook recommendations and why. Kind of like a book review/author review. =X= |

i agree with you, there have been some excellent genre recommendation threads. i'm not sure we can make *every* recommendation thread sticky, because we might end up with a forum full of stickies only, which is not very useful, but there have been a few (the more general ones) which might be worth sticking.
on the other hand, i'm not sure that making one giant sticky with ebook recommendations would be the best solution ; we already do have a dedicated forum for that, and i think individual threads are probably easier to navigate. imagine that thread, once it became 300 pages long !! would you really want to read all of it ? but if you can take a look in the forum and see the thread titles you're more likely to read the reviews that look interesting to you. which specific genre threads (post links) do you think should be made stickies ? |

What you could do is sticky one thread, that will contain links to book reviews. That way those reviews will be easily found and you won't have too many stickies.

yes, we could do that, but again, when that sticky grows to 300 pages, wouldn't you find it easier just to skim down the titles of the threads in the forum ?

Yes, if you used 1 page per link. I was more thinking about 1 page that will contain more than 1 link...

could you make a sticky for each of the main genres.
Westerns SciFi History Fantasy, mystery and for goodness sakes, don't forget vampires/horror. this list could grow, of course, as people wanted others. Hwever, it would be easier for some to click on a sticky labeled "SciFi recommendations" than to scroll thru all the reading recommendations. |

what i think might be a good idea is to make sticky a few of the generalist ones which are already there : i know there is a very good thread on mysteries, for instance, and i think there was one about time travel or sf or something... and perhaps alex could add prefixes to the recommendation forum as well, the same genres as in the upload sections ; this would allow you to sort by genre prefix and see only the genre which interests you. also, please don't forget about TAGS ! you can use tags on any thread, even if it's not yours, and this is an excellent use for them. you can then search by tag. a good tag convention here would be, for instance, "review SF" or "review Mystery" or "review Fantasy" ; using "review" would keep the results to the forum you want. how about this : i will stick the main ones which are there already (please POST LINKS !!!), and we can start some index threads without sticking them for the moment and see how it goes. please keep in mind, we don't want to have too many stickies, because then they take up too much space on the first page of the forum, and other, more recent / more active threads won't be as visible. there are already 4 stickies in that forum. you have suggested 6 new ones, plus the ones which already exist. if we did that, more than half of the first page of that forum would be just stickies !! i think that might be too much. i'll ask alex if he can implement prefixes in that forum. what do you think of this proposition ? |

The more stickies we have, the less relevant they become. I think a thread about each book you want to recommend is fine. They would be more easily searched too. BOb |

now THERE is a brilliant idea ! thanks bob. the best part is, anyone can edit the wiki, so you can add threads (even other people's threads) to your heart's content.
