Footnote: As of tonight I have mains charged my new Kobo and set it to sleep only after 15 mins (no power off). I'll report back my findings re battery. |

Thanks for taking the trouble to check all your f/w backups and post your findings. Fom a development perspective it makes a lot of sense to find a kernel that works and stick with it whilst "improvements" are made to everything else, if indeed this is what Kobo are doing. But I'm beginning to think that this text file has no bearing on what's actually being employed other than a passing similarity.

Busybox gives you the uname command, so if you have telnet, uname -a should give the kernel version.

This thread might have some handy info. It's a big collection of numbers. Mostly hardware, but it also 'analyses' the version file so it might help you conclude that 'the' number is not the kernel version. |

There was (maybe still is, but I cannot find it now) a list of the enabled busybox commands in FW 1.9.5 or so.

In the end, my solution was to just disable power-off entirely, which seemed to solve things. |

That's a useful list, thanks. I can't see that being reduced so it looks like those who've enabled shell access could provide kernel data for us (Like Mrs_Often, I'm leaving mine on a power test ATM).

Results thus far:
Yesterday I fully charged the KT on mains, disabled power-off and set it to sleep after 15 mins. Having took it off the mains after ~5 hours, I read for 10 minutes then knocked it into sleep at 1am this morning still indicating 100%. I just checked it again at 1pm (+12 hours) and it's down to an indicated 91%, which is considerably more than I expected. I'll continue for a few more days .... Update: I should have tried this simultaneously with the "old" touch to compare. I'll set this up now. Last edited by Shai-Hulud; 02-08-2013 at 09:10 AM. Reason: Update |

I have a Kobo Touch but my battery icon does not include the actual percentage remaining, it's just an image of the shaded battery. Is this a new feature in a later firmware version perhaps? I currently on 2.something...

Madchen: in the latest firmware you just click on the settings menu at the top right to see battery percentage (among other things). Not sure about previous firmware versions.
