New Credit Card using eInk for security
According to this article on gizmag a company called Emue Technologies has developed a credit card that uses eInk as a security feature. The way I understand it, the credit card has a keypad in which you enter a PIN and the card generates a unique number that is displayed with the eInk and is good for that transaction only. You use the transaction number like you would the 3 to 4 digit security number currently found on credit cards. Not all of the infrastructure is in place for these cards to be viable, but I thought the concept and the use of eInk was interesting. |

Really something like this is needed, since too much is wrong with the current creditcard system

Thank the gods the title for this thread is wrong. I was very scared that a credit card would be using eInk for security. But, it is doing no such thing.
It is using eInk to display a one time PIN or CC# or something. Phew... I feel better now. BOb |

Clever idea, but I don't think it will work for long. The biggest credit card thefts are by hackers who gain access to the various CC databases (typically by CC processors). If they can get to the DB with the CC info, I have no doubt they can get the algorithms used by the temp PIN generation process.
The e-ink part should work fine though. |
