Calibre doesn't use word files, but MS Word can convert Word documents to HTML which can be converted to mobi via calibre. Use the “Save as Web Page, Filtered” option in MS Word for the best results. Other options can be seen at http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/conv...-specific-tips.

My copy of Calibre will import .docx files, but not open them with the internal viewer (it just launches Word) or convert them to any other format.

However, one can open the file in Word, and save it as an RTF file, and import that in to Calibre and it should work just fine (though the formatting may not survive well in the export from Word).

Thanks for that, =X=. I didn't know that program even existed. And apologies, sergio1108—I obviously didn't understand what you were asking.
