ASU Launches Kindle Text Book Use

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...books0724.html

Apparently the text book experiments are going ahead for 2009.

The most telling statement in this story (for me) was:

"While Kindle is the market leader, no single electronic device for viewing books, known as a "reader," has emerged as the industry standard. E-books used to be mainly available by downloading them onto a computer or viewing them over the Web. Now, several smaller devices are available, including the Kindle and the Sony Reader. More are in development, including one by Hewlett-Packard."

Anyone know about a H-P reader? Or will it be another netbook reader?

To be honest, I don't think the DX or any reader is yet good enough for text books.

You're right. Not until they support table of contents and internal links/anchors in PDF documents.

The system software has to be tailored for text books. And no device has the software to replace paper text books yet.

In spite of what Jon says I suspect the iRex would be perfectly suited for TEXT books except for the price and the fact that it can be broken through mishandling or tossing in a backpack. Students aren't always careful.
