It's worth looking at - specially given the "free" price. Any book with duct tape on the cover can't be all bad!

Yep. IIRC, they don't let self-publishers do free samples. I was guessing this was the author's way of offering a free sample for his book. Not as seamless as the publishing house books, but personally I think the free samples are a huge part of the attraction with the Kindle and even more important for a self-published work. I'd probably do that, too, if I were to self-publish through Amazon.
