Problems with Sigil and Sony Reader
When I look at my epub book in Sony reader it looks rather different than in Sigil bookview.
Some of the things that aren´t respected: .center {text-align: center;} is NOT centered. Italics I have formulated thus: .ital {font-style: italic;} <span class="ital"> It does not translate at all. Larger letter spacing .l-space { letter-spacing: 0.2em;} <span class="l-space"> does not work. Most importantly I have right after each chapter heading a small Intro, one or two right-aligned sentences. .intro { margin-left: 50%; font-size: 0.9em; text-align: justify; letter-spacing: 0.09em; } <div class="intro"> This comes out just like regular text. (Actually that code looks a bit strange... but I am new to CSS.) |

I think you have an issue with your CSS. On my PRS-T1 there is no issue whatsoever with the things you describe. Either the CSS is incorrect or the reference to the stylesheet is not correct.
Don't forget, a mistake in your CSS will result in the complete stylesheet being ignored. |

Does it matter that I don´t have a physical reader, just the digital program?
Am I perhaps in the wrong sub-forum...? |

Import it into Calibre and open it there. If your book still looks wrong, I presume there is an error in the CSS-file.

Check your stylesheet on the w3 validator. That should work.

Just remember that e-pub is a text mark-up "language" very like HTML so a lot depends on how the program interprets the tags and (like HTMl) the standards are "flexible" so epubs can look quite different when displayed by different programs

Thanks, it looks just fine in Calibre. What worries me is that it looks wrong (stripped of design) in Adobe Digital Editions and Sony Reader (both software versions, I have no physical reader).

If the ePUB does not look right in ADE, something is wrong in the ePUB. Letter spacing will probably be ignored, but the rest should work. Either there is a mistake in the stylesheet or in the ePUB. Since ADE will ignore the complete stylesheet when there is a mistake in there (not all mistakes by the way), it is probably the stylesheet.
Can you post your stylesheet? On another note, I think someone should move this message to the ePUB forum since it would be better placed there. It is not a Sigil issue. |

Ok, here it comes:
------------------------------------ @page {margin: 1.3em} body { margin: 0; padding: 0; font-family: "Garamond"; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 1em; text-align: justify; line-height: 1.25 } p { text-indent: 1em; text-align: left; font-size: 1em; margin-top:0; margin-bottom:0; } h1 { font-size: 2.5em; text-align: center; font-weight: bold; text-indent:0; margin-bottom:2em; } h2 { font-size: 1.7em; text-align: center; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; margin-bottom: 1em; page-break-inside: avoid; } h3 { font-size: 1.5em; font-style: italic; font-weight: normal; text-align: center; page-break-inside: avoid; } h4 { font-size: 1.5em; text-decoration: underline; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; text-align: center; } h5 { font-size: 1.2em; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; text-align: center; } h6 { font-size: 2.5em; text-align: center; font-weight: bold; text-indent:0; margin-bottom:0.5em; } .first {text-indent: 0;}' .tom { line-height: 100% } .bold {font-weight: bold;} .ital {font-style: italic;} .l-space { letter-spacing: 0.2em;} .center {text-align: center;} .centerital {text-align: center; font-style: italic;} .scenechange {text-indent: 0; text-align: center; margin-top:1em; margin-bottom: 1em;} .ir { float: right; margin: 3px; page-break-inside: avoid;} .il { float: left; margin: 3px; page-break-inside: avoid;} .ic { page-break-inside: avoid; } .caption { font-size: 0.9em; font-weight: bold; text-align: center; text-indent: 0; margin-bottom: 1em;} .intro { margin-left: 50%; font-size: 0.9em; text-align: justify; letter-spacing: 0.09em; } .intro1 { font-size: 0.9em; margin-left: 20%; margin-right: 20%; letter-spacing: 0.09em; } |

What a difference an apostrophe makes, trala...
After all these validators and flight check thingies, a good old HUMAN solves it! Thanks, colinsky. (You ARE a human, aren´t you? It is best to ask in these AI times...) |

Like I said, ADE is very picky with regards to the stylesheet. It must be correct. I am surprised the W3 validator didn't pick it up.
Actually, I just tested your stylesheet in the W3 validator and the error was identified. It gave a parse error on line 55: Code:
Parse Error }' .tom { line-height: 100% } |

Thanks, Toxaris. That would be the same error as colinsky picked up.
Just 1 error, sounds dandy. |
