Greetings from Boston

Hello all -

As the professional in charge of access technology for Boston University and as a graduate student in the school of education I have an interest in how technologies as discussed here can not only positively assist but also hinder our students in the pursuit of their academic goals.

Glad to have you aboard Daniel. Education is an excellent area to apply this technology in so many ways. And as you say, some are better than others! But as the technology improves as well as the surrounding infrastructure and general popular understanding, I think it will continue to explode and become essential in education and many other areas.

Just saw this at the Microsoft developers blog. Might be interesting.

Quote:
New Bill Gates Interview on Channel 9
Channel 9 has a new interview with Bill Gates. About two thirds of the way in he talks about how software can help to change education. He also talks about the need to make education meaningful to students. One of the things I've seen that proves the value of that thinking is that kids who normally do not like to read will read about things they are interested in for hours. Likewise if we involve math with other things, sports perhaps, students get more interested in it. Of course making things that custom, to each student's interests, is all but impossible in the real world. But perhaps students today will develop the software that allows for much more customizable learning in the future.

Bill also talks about other areas, medicine for one, that software can change the world. There are lots of problems left for computers to help solve.
