ebook uploading

I don't like the way files have to be uploaded. It is fine for posting one message or ebook, but I have 20 ebooks sitting on my desktop. I come home at the end of the day, and just don't want to bother.

The current upload page is a hassle. I would like some way to drag and drop the file in order to upload it. I think this would make posting a lot easier.

I would also like to have some kind of bulk upload page that auto-generates the thread title from specific author, title, description fields; but it is much less important.
What does everyone else think?

Maybe I should phrase this as a question instead of a request.

There are several people here that sometimes post 20 or 30 at a time. How do you do it? Do you find the current upload process awkward?

I assume that I am one of those that you have asked so here goes.

First, think of it from the downloader's point-of-view, They want to look at a title and know if it is something they might like to explore in more detail and if it is something for their format(s). Bulk loading just confuses that decision.

Second, if you have taken the time to format them all in individual volumes what is the problem in posting them that way? Would you put all "20 ebooks" in one volume as one file? Then don't post them that way.

I will post one book at a time in each of the three (3) formats that I currently post in. Yes, this is harder than it once was when I posted in BBeB/LRF alone but since there are people that download the other formats I will keep posting in multiple formats.

If you were to have a bulk uploader, you would still have to fill in the description for the books. You would still need to give each thread a topic. So the only step you would be missing out on would be having to go to each section for the format and start a new thread. It would be more work then it's actually worth to hack the software to allow bulk uploads given how little benefit you'd actually get. Without the description of the book, not everyone would know what it is or if it's something interesting enough to download. So yes, you do have to put a little bit ot work into a book upload. I find it easy enough to do all the formats in a row. I'm not always perfect at that hence my latest upload that needs PRC and IMP formats. But, at least I can go to the one I have up and grab a copy of the message and paste it in where needed.

The current system strikes me as being OK. We should only be uploading material which we think will be of genuine interest to readers, and which adds significant value to the PG original anyway. Yes, it takes a little which to fill in the page, but it's there primarily for the benefit of the downloaders, not the uploaders.

Well, I buckled down and posted all my outstanding ebooks. I've learned a few things.

At least half of my difficulties stem from the fact that my main computer is a laptop with a 12 inch screen, small keyboard, and a trackpad instead of a mouse. I would probably be happier on a desktop PC. But since I am not going to switch I simply have to live with the inconvenience.

Though if the mobile version of the forum becomes available, I will switch immediately.

Are you going to develop a new forum, or a new skin for the existing forum? I know of at least one forum that has a skin intended for small screens. At least, that's how I think they did it. I don't know much php so I can't answer for sure.

They have a mobile skin. I used to use it on my Nokia 770.

P.S. I'm not trying to pester you. The current forum is adequate.

I also have a trackpad on my laptop. I added a USB mouse from MS (~$30) that has made a world of difference.
