Hi, I just updated FFDL, I get this error when I try to update a FF from ao3 (overwrite always, add metadata) *happened with both the 2 ff I just tried*

is it because I updated FFDL and not calibre? I just wanted to try all the stuff you've been discussing about extratags etc, as I don't really understand what's written in the defaults.ini and barely managed to changed a couple of things on the personal.ini

EDIT: nevermind, I updated calibre and I don't get that error message anymore, sorry

Probably not. In the Plugin list in Calibre, each plugin shows what the minimum version of Calibre it can be used with is. 1.7.39 shows it can be used with Calibre 0.8.57 and up. If the problem started after changing something in personal.ini, it could be because of that. Try saving your personal.ini to text file so you can use it later, and deleting it in FFDL (if personal.ini is empty, I believe FFDL uses the default.ini). Then try the update. If it works, it's probably something that can be fixed in your personal.ini.

Thanks, I hadn't changed in personal.ini yet (I mean, the changes I had were all from when I first installed the plugin, the user/psw and a couple more things), I decided to upgrade first, in case what you all were discussing wasn't possible with my not up-to-date version.
Updating calibre seems to have fixed it, I tried the same procedure on the same story and no error this time, I also Downloaded a new story and it was ok ^_^
Now I have to try and understand the rest

I just tried out a few of those URLs myself and I also get 403 Forbidden errors. Then tried some other random fanfiction.net story and got a 403 as well. So it's not just you and it's not just these stories in particular.

I also got 403 Forbidden when trying the "get URLs from web page" function on a fanfiction.net index page.

Just tried to update FFN stories: getting 403s as well. FFN updates were working earlier the last time I tried updating, about 12 hours ago, so whatever is happening is certainly new. They've been doing network updates and messing around with those and other things; wonder if that might be a cause?

Chiming in a little late on this but I've taken to pausing Dropbox syncing while I'm updating using FFDL and then I start it back up again when I'm done. All you need to do is right click on the Dropbox icon in the systray then click setting and select Pause Syncing. This solves that error message problem. It's annoying but it beats having to move my library out of Dropbox.
