Is there hope for better ebook typography?

I for one hope so. I'll never go back to print books, but I do miss the nicely typeset pages...

Position Details

Overview:
Lab126 develops innovative consumer-centric product solutions. As the Senior Manager of Typography you will lead and mentor a team of typography engineers, rendering experts, and font professionals inside and outside the company. You are the chief visionary and contribute directly to the strategy and execution of a product’s typography architecture. As the Typography leader, you mentor and review the work of your team, recruit top talent, and are accountable for the quality of the deliverables produced by the group. You are experienced in leading strong teams through rapidly evolving, complex demands, including multiple projects with dependencies on other internal teams.

The Role:
Create the vision for developing, communicating, and implementing the typography framework and assets on the devices; follow through with the processes and tactics to implement the vision.
Inspire and lead the Typography team from concept through project execution, including rendering, embedded fonts, internationalization, imaging, and fonts.
Coordinate closely with product managers to develop a shared vision of a product’s typography and then lead a process to define the experience and design to deliver on a product’s objectives.
Work strategically with other executives and team members across the organization.
Requirements:
Bachelors required or years of professional experience in Typography, Design, or related field. Masters preferred.
8+ years professional experience as a typography leader; experience with handheld consumer electronics products a plus.
Superior planning skills to stay one step ahead of the work – you can model needs against high level roadmaps to make fact-based recommendations to management about staffing levels.
Strong user experience skill set – experience strategy, information architecture, and design aesthetic.
Strong relationship skills and the ability to influence people up, down and adjacent to obtain buy-in for your strategy.
An informed set of core values regarding typography, technology, and business communication – and the ability to present them with eloquence and concision.
Highly organized, strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of handheld device software architecture, Java and Linux desired.
