Date first published
I may be thick, but I have a serious problem when I go to amazon and/or goodreads and want to get a list of books by an author in order of first published with a date of first publication.
It is seriously driving me nuts. I had more than 10 years were I was unable to read, and some memory issues. This makes for a horrid time working out which books by any author I like that I may have missed. Am I missing an easy setting that I can apply to list books as I want. Many thanks applesauce |

Wikipedia has the most accurate listings. Of course, not every author is listed there. I've found Goodreads series information to sometimes be wrong.

The only options is to be diligent in looking. I know I'm getting bitten by this problem with my challenge. I thought Doughnut was published this year, but it was first published last year. Foiled for this year's entry. I use Goodreads which usually is right and lists Doughnut as first published in 2013, but it wasn't. I grabbed the paper copy from the library the other day and glanced through the publishing details...lo and behold it says "First published in Great Britain in 2012". I trust Goodreads and Wikipedia combined to give me the details, but sometimes it just isn't true. Wikipedia also says 2013.
I find wikipedia usually gives me the low down on an author and at least has the books in order (usually.) I like FictFact to keep my next books easy to find as well. |

I mostly rely on Fantastic Fiction, but I double-check by using Amazon's look-inside feature to view the copyright page.

Fantastic Fiction also seems to have a hideous website from the mid-90s.
I don't think the information on Amazon necessarily includes the original publication date. The date they store often seems to be the publication date of that edition, which in the case of kindle backlist books is fairly useless. |

If you are looking up a particular author you might try their own website. I have three authors that, when I want to see book order, I go to their sites. If you are wanting to see several authors then that might not be the best option (or if the author doesn't have a site).

At Amazon, on a book's product page you can click on the Author link (located just beneath the title) and then set Sort to "Publication Date." It will list the most recently published books first.

That's the publication date of that particular edition, though, which might well be long after the original publication date.

And then, of course, there are the problems of working out original publication dates for books translated into English from another language......
