do have i this right? 6 inch screen?
the kindle only has a 6 inch diagonal screen? how could this be? even a mass market paperback has a diagonal of 8 inches. trade paperbacks have a diagonal of 9.5 inches. so how is it possible that people can read on the kindle with the screen being so small?

Welcome to mobileread, exo.
Sounds like you haven't tried reading on an ebook reader yet. There are even smaller screens out there, and lots of our members read on their phones..........The Kindle reading experience is great. Enjoy the forums. |

You know, it IS surprising that the reading experience is so good on a Kindle. I could see a slightly bigger screen being a good thing, but I don't feel like the Kindle's screen is too small either. Logically it should feel too small, but in practice I don't have a problem with it at all. I think desertgrandma is right you might want to check out one of the readers available in stores. Some of the Sony's are 5" and some are 6" but they would give you a feel for how it works. The B&N Nook is 6" and you can check that out in stores too.

What do you mean "how is it possible"? Is there some physical reason that one can't read on a screen that's smaller than a paperback book?

Before I got my reader I thought that 6 inches was going to be too small for me as well, but I find it is a great size for reading novels and it is super portable - my reader fits into even my smallest purse. I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen for reading at home, however, in addition to the 6 inch.
