Oh, well, if it was merely for pleasure, I would have choosen without hesitation a Cybook Opus.
I guess I would have been so happy with such a light, portable (and cheap) device, and the thousands classic books I would have always liked to read. Maybe I would have lost the pleasure of going around for bookstalls hunting old, forgotten, second-hand volumes, but i'd have had an infinity of well written words immediately accessible. But how should I deal with the tons of specialistic books I have to study? No, I think I will just wait. I'm stuck with real-paper and real-ink. Thank you anyway for all your great advices. |

With the new Nook color announced this could be right up your alley.

hello andrea, i'm looking for a mathematics ereader too. I noticed this one recently : archos 70b
it's a lcd "e-paper" screen, android OS, and 70€ price (in France) !!! so it seems perfect. But I'm waiting for a review to buy it. |

No. "e-paper" is a meaningless marketing term which means "LCD".

LCD is different to e-ink. I don't know what e-paper is, but I strongly suspect a marketing term.
Andrea and eggrz, I think that for maths/physics text/reference books, a tablet is best considering current technology. It is quicker and easier to skip through pages, copy and paste, write notes, etc. Also I'm not sure how well LaTex docs would render in an ereader. It's been a long while since I used it and I can't remember how well it exported. It's no doubt changed in that time as well. However if you have editable LaTex files, couldn't you resize it to fit a 5" or 6" or whatever size screen? Then reflow becomes a non-issue. Of course you will have many more pages then, which could be a pain if you want to flick back to an earlier equation or comment. Personally, I still like paper for scientific articles, especially where diagrams or equations are involved. |
