Ubuntu Karmic with Calibre 0.6.13

I find Calibre is great and does everything perfectly in Windows, but i have the same problem trying to use it on any of my Ubuntu installations, with error messages like this, when trying to import a book into my library:

The same request works fine in Windows. What can I do to troubleshoot?

you need a newer calibre release. I'm guessing you're trying to use it with the library from a windows box created by a newer calibre version.

Thanks kovidgoyal, you replied so quickly!
I had used the version in the Synaptic Package Manager. I have just used your binary installer which worked fine, and have imported the pdf without a hitch.
I will do the same on the other ubuntu machines.
