Romantic comedy novels for men?

I'm in a a bit of a weird mood and feel like reading something with a good love story, preferably on the more comedic side of it, but don't want something way over the top or softcore pornography. It doesn't necessarily have to be the main focus of the plot; it could be a good subplot to the novel. For example, I just watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (good movie, I feel it did justice to the original novel) which had a bit of a romantic element between Arthur and Trillian which I enjoyed. So does anyone have some suggestions for me?

One romance novel I can recommend: "Valentine Bachelors" by Elise Title, Pamela Bauer, and Tiffany White. It basically consists of a prologue to set it up, each of the authors contributes a story, and an epilogue to tie it all up. The basic scenario is that it's New Year's Eve and three friends are at a bar, each without a date. In the course of events, they make a bet to advertise for a date in the personals.

It was one of the first romance novels I ever read, and it is still one my favorites. One thing I like about it is that the humor comes naturally from the characters, rather than being forced. You should be able to find it easily on-line or at your local used-book store.

I wholeheartedly support this request for recommendations!

On a side note: I rarely get to see the oddly specific Marvin the Paranoid Android emoticon, so that's why he's in the crowd there.

I heartily recommend anything by Lois McMaster Bujold. Most of her later works have some romance built in, and even some of the ones from her Vorkosigan series (which is usually labeled military SF) have romance.

For absolute funny romance, try A Civil Campaign (vorkosigan, available from Baen Books)

For more serious romance, her fantasy is best. Books from her 5 Gods series each contain romance, and while linked can be read out of order (but Paladin of Souls should be read after Curse of Chalion). On the other hand, The Sharing Knife series must be read in order to get best effect. (these are all from EOS books, so they're more expensive and drm infested.)

Other thoughts (all SF or fantasy): Linnea Sinclair has all romantic SF, so far they are all individual books, not a series. Some of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover books have strong romance. Patricia Briggs has some werewolf books out that have fairly strong romance.

All of my recommendations have some romantic elements, but (at least to me) have the story as the main point.

Definitely the book I think of when "romantic comedy for men" comes up. Best read after Komarr wherein the romantic interest actually starts. The only fault is that, for my taste, it leans a bit too far to the farce side. I prefer my comedy to be more natural, though A Civil Campaign was tolerable except for some of the parts with Mark which I can only describe as slapstick. I detest slapstick.

I'm very interested in other novels like that.

When I want some romantic comedy I usually read manga. I recommend this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_till_Tomorrow There is a very big market for seinen romantic comedy in Japan.

If you don't like manga, read The Dancers at the End of Time by Michael Moorcock. Utterly hilarious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dan...he_End_of_Time

Try "Faking It" by Jennifer Crusie.

Or the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich (Not really romantic but Janet used to write Bodice Rippers until she ran out of ideas for new sexual positions for the characters so some tension is in the books).

Found this on InkMesh (Promotional Free ebooks)

'The Man on Platform 5' by Robert Llewellyn (who played Kryten in Red Dwarf)

Basically, a male-orientated romcom about a girl who tries to make a total geek sexy for a bet. I'm not sure if it's available in an e-format, though. It's pretty funny, though there are some rude bits.

Totally because I just started reading it again myself so it is at the front of my brain

But have you ever read The Princess Bride by William Goldman - not watched the movie, read the book!

I'd recommend the "Thursday Next" series from Jasper Fforde - starting with "The Eyre Affair" and following. If you enjoyed the "Hitchhiker", I'm pretty sure you'll love this one, too.
There's a romantic "side story" in these stories, too.

Greetings,

If you're in the mood for something rather long, I would heartily recommend Michael Moorcock's Dancers At the End of Time series of three books: An Alien Heat, The Hollow Lands and The End of All Songs. Hilarious and romantic. I read it several times.

Dancers At the End of Time is a strange book. Once in a year it comes into my mind and I can't get it out again without spending one day with it.

Everyone must read it.

If you want something funny, I recommend Tinker by Wen Spencer. The best way to describe it is Science Fiction with Elves and Magic. I think it is available for free from Webscription.

If you decide that you don't want fantasy, check out the collaborations between Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer

"Bloodsucking Fiends", by Christopher Moore, and the sequel, "You Suck!". (There is a third one but I haven't read it.) It's a sort of parody of the whole 'urban fantasy' genre. Very funny stuff, with a bit of romance in the mix.
