Make calculations using column data

This is a question for quite an esoteric use, but I'll try anyway.

Does Calibre, in some way, have the possibility to make calculations on columns? I'd like (for example) to be able to select all books tagged "Read.2013", and then, somehow, calculate the total number of pages read, or the average number of pages per book.

Can something like this be done already, or is there some sort of "Statistics" plugin? If not, would it be useful to create one?

You'd need a plugin. The template language and searching in calibre operate on individual books, so cannot be used to create aggregate queries.
