Splitting an ebook in 2

How do you split an ebook in two? The book came as a .prc but i don't mind converting it to whatever first.

Is there any good .prc or .epub editor software out there that would make this easy?

Epub format is, essentially, a zip archive containing a bunch of human-readable, text files. Unzip the file twice to create two copies, it should be a 15 minutes job with any text editor to fix the copies, if you know what you are doing. If you haven't tried it yet, an excellent starting point is Epub Format Construction Guide.

You need to identify xml/html files that need to be removed/edited, and then do a couple of simple modifications to *.opf (remove entries related to xml/html files that you are removing) and toc.ncx (remove entries for files that you don't need, reorder the rest) file. Once you're done, zip the files to create new ePub containers and test them. That's it.

Extract the HTML source*. Split the HTML source. Recompile into two ebooks.

Umm... Why?

I have bought books that contain 2 books in one .prc file. I prefer one book per file, so I'm splitting them. Might be the same reason for the OP.

To the OP: I extract the HTML source and split the HTML code (that does require a bit of work, depending on the source, you need to find out where the split is and what to put in both (new) sources). Then I copy the e-book files that are to be in both books (like the manifest) and edit them if needed (book title for example and the ID).

And finally, I recompile both books.

Each to their own. Personally, I like combining books into "omnibus" editions .
