Best Book you Read Published this year?

I need some help here. I'm looking for a book to read that was published in 2012. It can be any genre, any length, any country of origin.

It's a vague and random request, but I haven't read anything published in 2012 yet so show me what's new and interesting.

Redshirts by John Scalzi is a book published in 2012 that I've read and enjoyed.

The best book published this year that I've read is Crossing the Borders of Time: A True Story of War, Exile, and Love Reclaimed, by Leslie Maitland, the story of her mother's youth, escape from Nazi France, and separation from the love of her life. It's got 4.24 stars at Goodreads; I gave it three. Her mother's story is much more interesting than that of the author herself.

That's tough. After checking several publication dates, it would seem I'm a minimum of 2-3 years behind the times.

And I was so sure I'd read some brand-new books.

I haven't read many books that were published this year, but I did enjoy Stonemouth by Iain Banks (I find Iain Banks to be one of the most reliable authors - nearly always produces enjoyable books).

May not be your thing (you did say any genre) but my vote goes to John Green's The Fault in Our Stars.
It's been at the top of my personal best-of-2012 list since it came out in January.

Redshirts was a fun book. Not award winning, but a quick read and if you're any kind of a Star Trek geek it will hit all the right buttons.

Remember, that award winning does not always mean enjoyable.

I have to agree that Redshirts probably won't win an award. But that doesn't matter as it was enjoyable.

I am looking forward to reading War Maid's Choice by David Weber. It is due out July 1, 2012. July 2012 counts too, doesn't it.

I think The Rook is the only 2012 book I've read so far, but it was awesome and I highly recommend it.

Nope, it doesn't count as it's not yet happened and War Maid's Choice doesn't count because you've not read it so you cannot say you've enjoyed it.

Care for some nonfiction? I really liked The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg.

Also plenty of us here liked the dystopian Wool series; the 5th one was published this year.

(and I just discovered how to sort my Goodreads list by pub date! Cool!)

I'm, not sure if I read any other books published this year but I go with Tricked, the 4th book in the Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne.
