FYI, all but one of the books I checked has also been marked down to $1.99 at Kobo US...and Open Road is usually couponable there.

It was in the list linked to above. Here's a link to just that book, but it's not $1.99 any longer since the daily deal is over (it's still pretty cheap & goes on sale from time to time)...

Amazon has several John Ringo books listed for free at the moment. A couple are first-in-series books that also have cheap WfV audio versions.

All the titles in yesterday's deal were from Open Road Media, and will go on sale again in all formats for their imprint-wide Cyber Monday sale (if not sooner).

That's where the "second editions" of those books come from, too. When Baen inked their Amazon deal, Amazon didn't want to be in the position of selling the same thing that the Free Library was giving away, so Baen adds a little something (usually an intro or foreword, IIRC) to make the for-sale Second Edition versions just a little different. The originals are still free, but there's also a for-sale-and-royalties version, so everyone's happy.

Unfortunately, that's something I'm in the dark about. Maybe I can ask Toni around the end of the month, if you'll drop me a PM on the 25th or so; we'll be at a convention together.
