We have to go through a bit of an approval process with some retailers such as Whitcoulls. They (understandably) want to take a look at everything and make sure everything is good to go and give their stamp of approval.

The sooner it's available the better I say! Really looking forward to the font fixes.
Altho, if you're waiting on Whitcoulls approval, that sounds more like "general release" than "early access". |

Ahh I figured this might be the case for the branded ones, which is why I've given up waiting for Borders AU (I'm guessing I'm not the only one!). If their speed is anything like their customer service, I could be waiting years for an update

The links provided lots of times on this forum worked fine for this NZ Kobo :-)

Yes - ditto for me. Normally things go wrong when I do upgrades (eg beta software on GPS devices!), but using the Kobo desktop worked fine for me.
I couldn't wait any longer for the 'official' Whitcoulls upgrade. IMHO Whitcoulls need to lift their game as far as customer service and the Kobo are concerned. |

I would agree with you, Graeme. I lodged a ticket on their support site (good luck finding it, BTW) nearly three weeks ago and the only reply I've got from them is an automated one saying that a large number of their emails had gone astray. That was over a week ago and still nothing.
What frustrates me is the difference in functionality between the iPhone, desktop and website apps. The browsing is inconsistent between them all. The website is the worst. But that's another topic... |

It's probably a result of their online presence being re-invented every year or two. I worked for Whitcoulls for a long time and saw the online side of the business re-hashed maybe 3-4 times? With each iteration would be a new backend, new processes, and probably new people. I have no idea what they are running for their backend processes these days, but from a customers point of view the service must have gone way backwards, even from the Flying Pig days.
Cheers, G |

Whitcoulls in NZ don't seem to like the Kobo at all. The general attitude is that the Kobo is only in store as a backup in case their bricks and mortar model disappears, and it's a kind of quid-both-ways bet on behalf of their parent company. I can see how the employees could feel like that! So if you show interest in the Kobo they think you're threatening their jobs...
