Invalid Zip file - local header is damaged

When opening an epub file from within Calibre (pressing the epub format in the right hand column) I sometimes get an error message saying "Invalid Zip file - local header is damaged". However, when I click to open the pad there is no zip file but a file with an epub extension.
I tried to correct the problem using the heuristic conversion option but to no avail. What can I do to resolve this problem?

@Francois Driesen - An epub is a regular zip file with a different file extension - .epub, instead of .zip. The first step in processing an epub file is to unzip it

All I can suggest is to copy the .epub file to your desktop, rename it to .zip and try opening it with your unarchiver. If that gets an error google for "repair zip file' and try to repair it.

If you do manage to repair it, then rename it to something like 'repaired book.epub' and try reading it with the calibre ebook-reader program.

If you can't repair it then ask for your money back or replacement epub.

Thumbs up Invalid ZIP file- local header is damaged

Try to repair the corrupted ZIP archive using WinRAR utility. It supports a built-in repair feature that can repair corrupted RAR as well as ZIP archive. You need to follow the steps given below:
  • Open WinRAR tool, click on File tab > Open. Or press Ctrl + O.
  • In the "Find Archive" window, locate the corrupted ZIP file and select it.
  • Now click on Tools tab > Repair archive. Or press Alt + R.
  • In the "Repairing File name.ZIP" window, click on Browse button to select a location for newly repaired ZIP archive.
  • Check the "Treat the corrupt archive as ZIP" box and click on OK to start the repairing process.
  • Within a few seconds, the ZIP archive will be repaired. Click on Close.

Now check the newly repaired ZIP archive at the defined location.

Or you can also try a third-party ZIP recovery tool such as SysInfoTools ZIP Recovery to recover data from corrupted ZIP archive if the manual tricks fails. Try its free demo version first.

To read more about this tool and to download its free demo version, you may visit: www.sysinfotools.com/zip-recovery.html
