PRS-600 help, my dictionaries are locked

(I am not a native english speaker, if i say something unclear please let me know and thanks for your patience)

I just got my prs600 two days ago, since prs600 doesn't support chinese, i hacked my prs600. i followed the procedures that everyone does in china. everything was fine, except one thing, my dictionaries are locked at the option "no".

which means, even though i choose either dictionary, after the system is restarted, the option still is locked at "no".my prs600 shows" dictionary is disable"

i changed the language option to english, it didn't work.
i recovered the original system, it didn't work.
i reset my prs600, it didn't work.

nobody in china who hacked its prs600 like what i did has the same problem with its dictionaries.

is there anyone knows how to solve this problem?

Hi,
I have the exact same problem as you. After doing the hack to enable the chinese language, the dictionary cannot be enabled anymore. The PRS-600 resets itself everytime I try to enable the dictionary. (Note that I have already set the Menu Language back to 'English' and the Keyboard setting to 'United States'.)

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Yep.
Some new prs-600 readers has 1.0.02.13180 version firmware.
Dictionary files are changed. kconfig.xml are changed. If you use old hack software (build on old version firmware) crash dictionary and maybe something else.
Use for your hacks last package 1.05f Boroda or 3.3.1 Amutin.

can you explain more about " Use for your hacks last package 1.05f Boroda or 3.3.1 Amutin" ?

do you mean my these dictiornaries have a chance to work if i rehack my prs600 with these two packages?
or, the reason why my prs600 got this situation is because i hacked it with the software based on these two packages.

well, or, i still have the beckup of my dictionary files and kconfig.xml in my computer, is there anything i can do with these files

1.05f boroda or 3.3.1 Amutin based on 1.0.02.13180 firmware, if your reader has this firmware and you install old packages, rehack witn new one and dictionary will worked.

i found the package of 1.05f boroda, rehacked in my prs600
and i updated my fireware to edition of 1.0.01.08040

the dictionaries work again!!!!!!!!

unfortunately, after being hacked with chinese edition, the system will be back to 1.05d boroda. the dictionaries will still be locked.

it seems like that i have to choose between "chinese" and "dictionary"....

god! i m so happy to see my dictionaries! thanks again!

may I know the detailed steps you took to recover the dictionary?

Where did you download the 1.05d boroda?

Did you need any files from the original PRS600? I was careless and did not back up any files before I did the Chinese Hack?

If I have a choice, I would rather have the dictionary back than be able to read Chinese. The reason I bought the PRS600 is primarily for the dictionary.

i totally agree with you.
you don't need your old files

here is my procedures:

1) download the package of 1.05f boroda. you can download it by this link

2)after downloading this package, you extract it.
下載後解壓縮到你的電腦硬碟上

3) connect your prs600 with your computer, see which hard disc is your disc "reader" (let's assume it's M: now)
連接你的prs600到電腦上，看名叫reader的硬碟是在哪個槽，為講解方便，這裡暫定為 m槽

4) back to the folder you just extracted in step2. as you can see, there is a folder entitled "test-autorun" in it. now copy this "test-autorun" folder to your disc "reader" 's root catalogue (which we just assume is the hard disc M)
回到你剛解壓縮在電腦硬碟上的檔案，裡面有個夾叫test-autorun，把他複製到你reader硬碟的根目錄(就一進去)
5) now, open the folder you just extracted in step2, you can see "flash_reader.bat", double click it to make it work. there should be a window showing a question:
enter the letter of the reader drive?"
type the letter"m" and press "enter"
打開你剛解壓縮在電腦硬碟上的檔案，你可以看到個bat檔，叫做flash_reader，d ouble-click以運行。會跳出個dos視窗，讓你打入reader硬碟是在哪槽? 打入後按enter

6)the programme will work. after few seconds, the programme will ask you press any key to continue.
你會看到程式自已跑著，最後跑出一行字讓你按任意鍵繼續。按任意鍵後，dos視窗就自動關閉了 。
7)safely remove your prs600.
安全移除你的prs600
8) reset your prs600 (press the reset at its bottom, slightly plunk the power)
度下方的reset鍵後，輕撥power鍵以重開機

check <more>--><settings>--><about>, you are supposed to see in line3:
russifiedorkupan (boroda) version:1.05f

those chinese-hacked editions are based on 1.o5d. if you rehacked with those editions you will miss your dictionaries again.

you sill can update your prs600 to the latest version(for now , it's 1.o.o1.o8o4o), it won't cover boroda's1.05f.

if you can't understand what i said, check boroda's web, there are some pictures to illustrate those procedures. and you can use google translation.

Thanksalot! Finally, I am able to get my dictionary back!

I'm a Chinese user and got the same issue. I found the thread http://goo.gl/uqX8 in hi-pda which localized ROM 1.05d. I compared 1.05d with 1.05f ROM and found the structure are almost the same. So I extracted both roms and copy fonts from 1.05d to 1.05f. Burned the 1.05f back to img. Then I flash the new ROM to my PRS-600.

After that, It works. Although the localize is not perfect. The main menu is still in English. But, anyway, I got English dictionary and can read Chinese.

I attached the new img here. You should replace the img file from 1.05f with this one. The location is PRS600.Firmware.Reload.Package\test-flash.
