HTC continues to shoot themselves in the foot. They just announced the HTC One S will not get the Android 4.2 update. They are their own worst enemy.

Good luck to HP re-entering the tablet market. Their leadership was a game of musical chairs up until now, so no wonder they had no rudder. We'll have to see if their new tablet quality is closer to their consumer PC's or their business class machines. Why? Because most of their consumer PC's are effectively made from wet tissue paper and most of their business class machines, like the EliteBook I am typing this on, are tanks.

Well, part of Google's reason for acquire Motorola was because their patents. It was far less expensive to buy than pay royalties for that. Of course, not main reason but an important one.

Amazon is not making money on their tablet hardware, but it helps them pull customers in. HP doesn't have that option. Google is doing fine, but their hardware division, Motorola, isn't.

Amazon is in the enviable position of not having to make (much) money on ANYTHING. Since there is basically no one who can match their size and infrastructure, Wall Street is happy to keep throwing money their way. They can just keep expanding into new businesses while making small profits. Web service? Publishing? VOD? Original programming? Grocery delivery? What can't they do?
