Sony PRS700 says "USB Connected" but IS NOT!

I plugged my USB into the reader as usual to copy some converted Calibre books to it, and it said something like "it was not ejected properly last time" but it was! I'd done it earlier in the day same as always. Also, when I plugged it in, it was 3 bars charged, and 1/2 hour later it was down to 1 bar???

Anyway, I tried eject again and it worked. I disconnected the cable from the reader (i've had this thing 2years, i've done this a million times) and the usb logo on the front says "USB connected" after more than an hour! I tried to shut down, but nothing.

Right now I'm trying to charge it via the wall charger, but not sure what to do now? I've never had to 'reset', not even sure that would help this situation??

any help appreciated of course

Yes, reset should help. Press it once, wait a bit, then toggle the power switch.
