Calibre not emailing automatically
I can manually email to my @kindle address but even with auto send checked in the Preferences-Sending books by email tab it isn't working.
I have converted from ePub to mobi, and have to mobi file type set to both in the output options tab, although it doesn't work on new or old either. I get no error messages either. Thanks for your help. |

If you click "Jobs" (and the gear icon next to it) in the lower right corner of calibre, you will see a list of all the jobs calibre has worked on in the current session. One of these (topmost is most recent) should be the email job. Double-click on it and the log window will pop up.
Paste the contents of that window here. |

That log is only for an EPUB to MOBI conversion.
Try resending the book and then (immediately) posting the topmost log. |

I am away from the PC at the moment, but the manual send does work when triggered. I assumed the log would show an attempt to auto send but if this option is not available for book conversions then that could be why it's not working for me.
Can a recipe be used to convert then auto send an ePub to mobi job? |

What are you trying to do? Send to email only works when you do Send to email. What is this manual vs "automatic"? Book conversions do not send to email, that would be disastrous -- every book anyone converted would automatically be emailed at random. If you send to email and have only MOBI configured as a receiving format, calibre will prompt to auto-convert in order to send a matching format. (Same applies when sending to device.) |

Auto send is only for downloaded news, as it says at the top of Preferences->Sharing by email

Ok, I have obviously misunderstood the capabilities of the email functions.
My intention was to have Calibre run/convert/send unattended. I have Calibre set to run at startup, to convert epub files to mobi from a watched folder and I then thought that it could email them to my kindle address automatically. This is seemingly not possible? |

Impossible, unless you use a custom script. You can make use of calibre-smtp (part of calibre) to send emails, and the command-line converter ebook-convert.
