IF true, that's a huge player. Why don't they call what it is, a 6" tablet. Those dimensions make it just as big as a Kindle 4.
Considering its size, the battery is very weak at 2500 mAh. I have serious doubts about the validity of such a device. |

So no multi player games? |

Good point, the specs didn't mentioned it, but perhaps it's a given.

I like everything about it except the screen which worries me. We shall see in the followups what the size is and what the effective resolution is.
I men by that that a iPod Touch is about 950 pixels on a 3.5" screen, and an Archos 43 is about 950 on a 4.3" screen. You can have a zillion pixels on a 1" square, and won't be able to tell the difference between a 1" square with 950 pixels, unless you are a young child and can bring the screen up to about 1 or 2 inches from your eye, or you use a magnifying glass or some humongous (6+ diopters) farsighted glasses. The idea that the player would have RF antennas and receivers for FM, and GPS and NOT for WiFi is pretty far fetched.

It might be right though. The current Galaxy Player comes in three sizes: 4.0, 4.2 and 5.0. Maybe they are settling on the 4.2 or 5.0 inch screen for this one.

Then there are quite a few typos in there, because it lists the size as 6.5" x 3.4" x 0.43" and the weight as 7.9 oz.

Using the relative measurements of the photo as a guide; I suspect that the screen resolution is 960X576 A 5:3 (the same as the Player 5.0) as opposed to a 16:9 aspect ratio. This will give you a 192dpi, which isn't to shabby.
I like my Player 5.0 a lot but often wish it had a little larger screen when using it as an ereader, So, I'll probably get one of the new ones and give the Player 5.0 to one of the progeny. Regards - John Last edited by Jabby; 08-20-2012 at 07:57 AM. |

The problem imo is not in the first place the resolution (roughly on par with 6 inch e-ink readers, generally at 600x800) but the narrow 16;9 screen (in contrast to the much more pelasant 4:3 of most e-ink screens). My favorite, the note has a 16;10 screen btw, just acceptable when the marges are set to 0.

**EDIT** I checked out the specs of the Note and found a 1280X800 screen (8:5 aspect ratio): Here is a list of the screen widths of the three in question: GP5.0----2.573 + 0.236 = G Note---2.809 + 0.175 = GP5.8----2.984 **END EDIT** Here's the link: http://glbenchmark.com/phonedetails....stgroup=system Regards - John Last edited by Jabby; 08-25-2012 at 12:14 PM.
