You couldn't get me to go out and kill people either unless it actually WAS some sort of existential threat (which we've not had in about 70 years.) I'm not worried about my death, I'm not worried about my own suffering but I will not do violence to another person unless it actually means saving other people. Not even for my own life would I commit violence. There is a LOT our military does that is a 'choice,' and some of it is noble and most of it is not. Not things I will kill for.

The speed of which people in this country want to go kill is one of the most disgusting things about our culture. The only thing I can think of that is more disgusting is that so many Christians in this country (Christians simply because they are the vast majority, the issue exists amongst other faiths as well) think that it is acceptable to marry their faith to violence and nationalism and don't realize the supreme hypocrisy of such an act.

This thread has moved a long way from the original topic (the availablity of Ayn Rand's books).

The discussion is, arguably, becoming less edifying than we might hope. May I suggest that we try saying something positive or, failing that, abandon the thread?

I hear that all the time. I'd defend my country if there were a real threat, uh huh uh huh.

Tell me. How the hell would you do that? You think you just pick up guns and shoot people?

Never mind, I don't want you anywhere near me if that happens. I want someone trained to know what to do , and when.

And, I want a commander who has the guts to win a war, not just engage in skirmishes.

You people. You live here, you enjoy all the benefits of living in a free society, and you whine because "I dont want to hurt anyone".

How do you think this country was built? Not by pansies, thats for sure.

The earlier post was my last hurrah. I have thoroughly learned my lesson... it is impossible to have a civilized conversation around here and I shall keep it to technology and ebooks from now on. I should have learned my lesson last time.
