Chinese counterpart to Sony Reader?

This forum introduces the Hanlin as the "Chinese counterpart to Sony Reader". I'm not really sure what that means. Does that mean that the Hanlin device is the same as the Sony PRS-700 but just the outer shell is changed to make it look like another device?

Hmm...perhaps it's a bad analogy then. Perhaps the subtitle for the forum should say something like, "Hanlin is one of China's largest electronics manufacturer".

To say Hanlin is Sony's counterpart in China is very unclear. It could mean:

1. Hanlin is owned by Sony but changes its name to Hanlin when in China, or
2. Hanlin dominates Chinese electronics market
3. Hanlin is an electronic giant like Sony
and so forth.

In other words, the word "Sony" can signify a lot of things and the forum subtitle does not make clear what the usage of the word "Sony" is signifying.
