Since we do know that Bookeen has a newer firmware then originally was shipped with the Gen3, why didn't they tell their customers and make it freely available for them to download to upgrade to fix some of the bugs in th original firmware that the new one fixed. That does seem like bad business to me.

The reason they've stated for not publically releasing v538 as an update was that the firmware updating software was incomplete, and not very "user friendly". Perhaps they felt that this could cause problems for less technically knowledgeable users.

I don't think the early adopters would be so technically inept (IMHO).

It's probably a moot point, given that we're due to get an "official" firmware upgrade, hopefully within the next few days.

And my answer is "It is not an uncommon practice to put a version on new devices that has not been announced and made available to the public."

Many developers work on builds, reach some level of stability with a build, and include that build on newer devices. These newer devices are a step ahead of older devices When the developer posts a formal firmware update, then all devices get up to the same level of firmware.

If you do, then you've received it before me! I honestly don't expect it until the last of March. After all, they told us March and March 31st would make that deadline. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping they make it.

But I'll see it when it arrives.
