Skirting Geo Restrictions going mainstream?

I opened The West Australian newspaper to see on the 2nd page a small article about Geo Blocking and the consumer advocacy group Choice encouraging consumers to bypass it.

An expanded article is on the West website and Choices original blog on the matter. I think it's great that a spotlight is being shone on the matter but was a little concerned that neither The West nor Choice emphasised the risk of your content being removed. While us net savy lot are fully aware of how to get around geo blocking your average aussie consumer wouldn't be, a VPN and the like would be foreign to many of them. The more that become aware of the disparity in pricing of all digital media the better, bring down the wall I say

Right, and it's not just for books, it's for streamable content (Hulu anyone?) so that if you are an ex-pat you can't watch your usual shows from home (or the US) or read books in your own language if there isn't a store in your language in the country you're currently in. Georestrictions can often be overcome but it does take a bit more knowledge/perseverance than the average consumer has.
