Help Please

I'm trying to track down a book I read about fifteen years ago. It was actually the first ebook I ever read. I used an HP100LX with vertical reader for those that may remember that device.

Anyway, all I recall is the theme of the book. It was about a young man who was working in the "fire towers" as a forest fire lookout in the western part of the U.S. I don't recall it as being any great literary work, but for some reason I was thinking about it lately and wanted to read it again, but I just can't seem to find it. I was hoping a description on here might help. Thanks in advance.

What type of novel was it (thriller, romance, modern lit etc.)?

Jack Kerouac's "Desolation Angels" could be a possibility.

It was a work of non-fiction and chronicled a summer spent working as a fire lookout in the west. Written sometime around WWII if I remember correctly.

Smokechaser might be the one. I have no idea where I would have gotten an ebook of it since I haven't found it this afternoon, but I'll keep looking. Thanks for the help.

Was it Young Men and Fire by Norman Maclean, who also wrote A River Runs Through It?
