at first time i remembered these series

and glenn meade's whole books are awesome

Ian Flemming's original James Bond novels are good reads, and they're somewhat different from the films. Same goes for the Jason Bourne series.

Also Robert Crais and Elmore Leonard are fairly action packed.

Tim Dorsey is a bit bizarre but again action packed
