Additional note on the Library and updating to Golden Allmine.
It is pretty obvious that "copying" the Library files to the sdcard can produce a different result than "moving the Library" to the sdcard, and that backing up the library files (which produces a .single esi file) is different from both of those. Apparently, one should move the Library to the external sdcard and then do the update. To avoid complications, one SHOULDN'T backup the Library to the sdcard and then update. Steve |

Your problem is still that your backup has the wrong serial number. Can you unzip it by hand? If so, you should recover all the files, possibly read the library but not add files to it. Then you could use the same hack in the Allmine thread to fix the library. But I do agree that backing up before the Golden Allmine won't work, I will add a note to the instruction files. Happy holidays! |

Thanks, pablob and the same to you.
I am unclear about unzipping a .esi file. I will try to do this on my linux computer. In any event, I have copies of the books I added to the Library. My concern is that (as others have reported), the Library won't accept new items. This may not be an issue with the golden allmine update. I will try and let report back. Steve |

A question. Is there any reason to do the ALLMINE update other than to free up more room for apps and have access to the Market? I forget all of the tweaks and updates I've done over the last nine months, but I know I haven't done ALLMINE. Currently, my PE is running Ermine 0.9, Android Version 2.2.1, and I successfully have GAPPS installed. It works fine. I know the minuscule allocation for apps is a problem for some, but I don't use that many apps, and I would hate to lose 2 GB of storage space on the internal SD card. I can live without the Market, and I don't really need the extra app space. Is there any other reason to do it?

Hi pablob,
I found that I could unzip the file in linux (Debian Squeeze and Puppy 4.2.1) and view the files.. I haven't checked real carefully, but these appear similar to those described by kenjennings in April (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=131049). I did this both with a USB drive and a SD drive. The only difference I found on the two drives is that the USB unzipping produces a duplicate inside a "trashes" folder. The thread from April indicates that the serial number is contained in a table (esimeta) which is within the file library.db. The contents of esimeta can be displayed and manipulated with an sqlite command. Here is his comment and the code for the "Library fix": ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBABLY IMPORTANT: The esimeta table appears to identify the specific edge device. This table has only one record in it that contains the system's serial number. This may be the only value that prevents a backup on one system from being restored on a different edge. Chances are, updating the value of the "devices" column here to match a different, target eDGe device, then updating the backup .esi/.zip file with the new library.db file would allow the backup file to be restored on a different edge. Pseudi-semi-educated guess at work. Code: sqlite> .schema esimeta CREATE TABLE "esimeta" ( "_id" INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT NOT NULL, "libraryName" TEXT, "device" TEXT); sqlite> select * from esimeta ; 1|My Library|F303082002AF --------------------------------------------------------------- ***Surprisingly, kenjennings doesn't mention the file inside the folder /sdcard/.edge/.esi-content/.esa/ which ALSO contains the OLD serial number in its title. The file in this folder (on my PE) is titled ann_RF30042100A3E_epub_10_4e1e575b.esa. When I check its properties, it is described as a gzipped archive, but when I changed the extension to .gz and extract, only an XML file is produced. A later post to the thread stated that changing the serial number in the /fridge/.edge/.esi-data/.databases/library.db file didn't allow the restore to be performed (Method not stated, but in 7/2011, before the Allmine fix). The "Library Fix" developed and posted by KTwombley in the Ermine+Market=Allmine thread was said to work by a few people, and I don't know of anyone who said it didn't work. This fix (details below) seems to change only the serial number in the library.db file; it doesn't apparently do anything with the file in the .esi-content folder. Quote (KTwombley) Library fix . If you’ve previously applied the Allmine update and your library is broken, applying the newest Allmine update should fix it. If that doesn’t work, you can try this manually. First, find your serial number. Go into Settings, Edge Settings, Default Device Preferences, and then scroll down to Device Preferences. Write that down. su sqlite3 /intstorage/.edge/.esi-data/.databases/library.db "update esimeta set device='SERIAL_NUMBER_GOES_HERE'" (if the Library was "moved" to the sd card, the command is adjusted for the different location [contributed by bobthesane] su sqlite3 /sdcard/.edge/.esi-data/.databases/library.db "update esimeta set device='SERIAL_NUMBER_GOES_HERE'") End of Quote Reflashing is not going to fix the situation where the library was archived (with .esi file generated) and the original library files are no longer present, though. Changing the serial number in the .esi archive files to the one created by Golden Allmine and listed in the /system/serial_number file seems plausible. It seems reasonable and harmless to try the "Library Fix." If this doesn't work in my case, I guess the next thing is to try to change the number in the file in the .esa folder. Next to last comment (question) Do I need to have anything in the "fixed" .esa file other than the /fridge and /sdcard folders (including their subfolders and files, obviously). I don't need a "LOST.DIR" or any other files in that file or on the sdcard outside the .esa file, for a successful restore? Final comment - I believe ES File Explorer has a setting to display hidden files but I haven't been able to find it. Appreciate reference or directions on making hidden files visible. I have z4root installed, so I think that it shouldn't be a permissions issue, unless I need to reroot or if ES File Explorer doesn't work well with z4root. Steve |

I attempted to manually 'restore' the contents of the library. When I selected pdfs and epubs and the office samples, a window opened which included the option to add to the Library. Photos, music and video files when selected did not cause this window to display, just a window with different apps to open them.
After I added some documents to the library manually, I was able to open them with one exception - a .pdf that was 'rejected' because it was from a different user. The pdfs and epubs were openable, but the office documents displayed an error message, "unsupported device - passion". After I performed a backup of this partially rebuilt library and attempted to restore it, the scene displayed a message,"Your eDGE us restored, rebooting...". Then it just sits there. If I hit the home button, I am able to get to the Library screen and see that the pdfs and epubs are still usable, but I have to manually reboot to get rid of the message. Anyone else try a backup and restore test after performing a Golden Allmine upgrade? Steve I was Last edited by stevesr0; 12-28-2011 at 04:32 PM. Reason: correction |

If the option exists Skip the remaining steps and manually setup DRM and calibrate the reader and LCD screens and you are set to start using your PE. You can also try doing a hard reset using a paperclip and the reset button near the USB port. |

Library restoration after Golden Allmine - Beating a dead horse
I know that a Library Fix has been posted for those who lost their Libraries after the Allmine/Golden Allmine upgrades. I have written about my particular problem and I don't know if any/many other people are having similar problems or any problems at all with their Library after upgrade and application of fix. So I apologize if this post is beating a dead horse and in absence of replies will cease and desist <g>.
However, just in case there are folks out there who are having Library problems not dealt with by the "Fix",... I saw a thread from kenjennings in July 2011, listing the files in HIS external sc card backup file (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=131049). I am posting this because my file structure is different and might impact on the "Library Fix". I hope others who have done the Allmine upgrade and/or have Library problems might report their structure and comment on the significance of different patterns. I performed a backup of my Library to an external sd card (yielding a .esi file), before doing the Allmine upgrade. As advertised, I now have access to the market and to google apps and the Library contents were lost. My attempts to restore the Library backup file have failed (an error says the file is invalid). I have tried various things, but have NOT reverted the system/serial_number to the original one (one of the two suggestions pablob provided to me) which would possibly work, because I don't want to lose the gapps functionality and Market access. I HAVE been able to add the pdfs and epubs that had been in the Library back to it with the exception of one that was said to be licensed to another user. The sample office documents were added but don't launch (error message "unsupported device-passion"). I haven't figured how to add the multimedia files to the Library. So at this time, I am studying my files and waiting to see if other people post similar problems and can shed light on how to either restore a preupgrade backup or move all the preexisting Library files into the Library in a functional state. Library-related File Structure on my PE: The general arrangement of the library-related files is that they are divided between two folders (/fridge and sdcard). Under each are .edge subfolders. The subfolders in the /fridge/.edge/ and the /sdcard/.edge/ folders are very different from each other. On my PE, I have multiple .edge/ folders and I have listed their contents below. Structure of Library Files on my PE. Under / and /extsdcard, /fridge/.edge/ /fridge/vfat.img /sdcard/.edge/ Under /intstorage /.edge vfat.img the /.edge/ folder within /fridge and /intstorage both contain the following by default: /.esi-data /.esi-data/.databases/.nomedia /.esi-data/.databases/library.db (the FIX deals with a database table esimeta in this file) /.esi-data/.databases/recent-files /.esi-data/.databases/state.check /.esi-data/.databases/state.db /.esi-data/.edb/.nomedia /.esi-data/.edb/help.epub.edb /.esi-data/.edb/Romeo and Juliet.epub.edb /.esi-data/.nomedia /.esi-system /.esi-system/.fontconfig/ /.esi-system/.nomedia /.esi-system/calib_values under /sdcard/.edge, /.esi-content/.esa/ (empty folder) the same directory in my /extsdcard/sdcard/.edge/ houses a file with the device serial number /.esi-content/toadd/ /.esi-content/.nomedia /.esi-content/help.epub /.esi-content/Romeo and Juliet.epub /.esi-content/Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.epub + the office sample documents /.esi-media/.nomedia /.esi-tmp/ /attachments/ /help.epub under /extsdcard/sdcard/.edge, /.esi-content/.esa/ann_serial_number_epub_10_4e1e575b.esa /.esi-content/.nomedia /.esi-content/help.epub /.esi-content/Romeo and Juliet.epub /.esi-content/Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.epub + the office sample documents+multimedia samples /.esi-media/.nomedia /.esi-tmp/ /attachments/ /help.epub under /extsdcard/fridge/.edge, /.esi-data /.esi-data/.databases/.nomedia /.esi-data/.databases/library.db /.esi-data/.databases/recent-files /.esi-data/.databases/state.check /.esi-data/.databases/state.db /.esi-data/.edb/.nomedia /.esi-data/.edb/help.epub.edb /.esi-data/.edb/Romeo and Juliet.epub.edb /.esi-data/.nomedia /.esi-system /.esi-system/.fontconfig/ /.esi-system/.nomedia /.esi-system/calib_values Appreciate comments and questions. If none, I will (ultimately) try the revert to the original serial number in the /system/serial number file and go from there as suggested by pablob. Thanks. Steve |

Hi Steve,
I experienced the same issue with my office documents after I upgraded to Allmine. I solved the problem by changing the device name from "passion" to "edgejr" in my builds.prop file, which is located in the system folder. Hope this is helpful. |

Hi mytwobears.
Wow. That IS helpful. Thanks. I will try that. Did you have any problem with multimedia files originally in the Library? For some reason, when I select those files, the popup window that appears doesn't include an add to Library option. Steve UPDATE: I assume you were referring to ro.product.device? ro.product.device=edgejr already in my build.prop. The only other files in the build.prop with passion are ro.product.name, ro.build.product, ro.build.description and ro.build.fingerprint. There is a note in the build.prop file that says that the ro.build.product is obsolete and to use ro.product.device, so I don't know why it isn't #'d out?
