Good afternoon to you all from belgium

Since a couple of months I am looking for a decent e-reader and since I haven't owned one before, the first thing I am doing is reading up on the different technologies and specs, and already found some interesting subjects on this forum.

I read mainly IT books, and I am starting to get annoyed by the fact that I have to switch my pc on to read them. So I am looking for an e-reader which allows for good pdf support (both in text as in pictures) as my main library exists for 90 % out of pdf formats. If anyone can already point me in a starting direction by naming some e-readers (except for kindle, read alot about it and not a big fan of them for several reasons) your help is much appreciated.

Hi, welcome to Mobileread!

A lot of people like the iPad for PDFs.

I have a Sony PRS-600 with a 6" screen and it's PDF support is marginal, unless the pages are formatted for the smaller screen. If you read a PDF formatted for A4 paper on that small screen the writing will be really tiny. If you make the text bigger, it won't flow around the pictures. Best thing for the Sony is to read PDFs in landscape mode, then it does okay.

I think the Sony has a lot of advantages but the PDF support is not the best there is.

I was thinking of the Ipad, but unfortunately the price here in europe is quite high in comparision to US (499$ becomes 499 euro

)
It's a bit expensive for just reading ebooks. I was thinking between 200-300 euros as an acceptable price

Good to have your company, Druid. There are eink devices that do a good job with PDFs, but I can't remember them off hand. This is a busy forum, so I'm sure one of our resident experts will jump in with recommendations before I have time to hunt them down. Best wishes. Neil
