If Kindle 4 comes out, will Amazon allows Kindle 3 owners to make exchanges?
If Kindle 4 comes out, will Amazon allows Kindle 3 owners to make exchanges?
(assuming the Kindle 3 was purchased directly from Amazon.com and it's still within the 30-day return policy) Thanks in advance! |

If the K3 is within the return period, of course Amazon will take it back.

@OP: Why not call Amazon/Kindle customer service directly and ask them what they plan to do in this case?
I would be surprised if they didn't already have a protocol planned for this exact scenario. |

Your K3 is returnable for 30 days. You won't really be making an exchange, just returning the K3 and then purchasing whatever the new one is called.
But .. usually new Kindle releases get announced and then there is a pre-order period. Right now the rumor mill is suggesting a product announcement sometime in August and deliveries will start happening in October. That sounds reasonable because October is the time that companies want the greatest media hype and visibility, to get their wares in all the holiday buying guide literature that starts pumping out in mid to late November. |

There will almost certainly be a K4, and all the rumours indicate an October availability. Standard return policy on Kindles is 30 days, so if you order a K3 now, and return it within 30 days, you'll be able to then order a K4, assuming it has been announced for pre-order, which seems highly likely given Amazon's history. But you won't be able to "exchange" one for the other. All your Kindle books, however, can be downloaded to the new K4.
Personally, I've had my K3 3G for quite a while, and I'm not particularly interested in upgrading to a K4 unless there is some compelling feature I haven't heard about yet. OTOH, a Kindle Tablet? I might be interested. Though in the end I may opt for a Windows Tablet instead. |

If you buy your Kindle with an AMEX card, you can get 90-180 days of "return" priviledges. AMEX will buy your item back from you.

Rumor has it that there will be two models K4. One with a touch screen and one without. I think if this is true that the one without the touch won't sell well enough and Amazon won't make another.
The touch could eliminate the physical keyboard. |

For myself I never use the keyboard on the kindle, well I rarely use it. It is just wasted space to me that adds bulk to the device. I would rather have a touchscreen keyboard for the rare 1% of the time I need it then have the physical keyboard there taking up space unused 99% of the time.

Two separate issues; keyboard or not, touchscreen or not.
There's plenty of keyboardless non-touchscreen devices. As long as non-touch is cheaper to build, there should be non-touch Kindles. Me, I'd rather see the K4 keep the K3 form factor and do an 8" 16x10 screen, no touch/no keyboard. Last edited by fjtorres; 07-30-2011 at 10:53 AM. |
