How will they know you removed the DRM from a book, if you're the only one that sees that book?

That's a whole different situation. And I doubt it would happen... There are too many non-DRM books out there.

So, if you remove DRM, just don't go out and brag about it. Simple as it is ...
Yep, except that I will admit I remove DRM for personal purposes. And it is officially a crime here too. And they will never go against the people that remove DRM for personal purposes. It would hurt them much more than they would gain.

It helps to update your knowledge from time to time. All music on iTunes is iTunes+ now - that is without DRM. The even play on a Sony PRS 505.

That's why so many people are excited about this move.

Yes, there are dissenters who feel this is a Power Move against Amazon.

You're going to hear a lot of opinions here going both ways. Listen to the reasoned arguments [debates], gauge the rhetoric of the contributors - are they shrill, reasoned, laughable, opinioned, biased - and do the research and then make your informed decision.

Have fun!

Well Sony is not a charity and they want you to buy a new device eventually. It's all about what they think will give them maximum profit.

Well there was that thriller where the police where looking for a murder. Suspect A was not the murderer after all - but he did have lots of illegal DVDs.

It does if they use it to try and block copying and pasting, searching, text to speech, backing up off device, etc., etc.

The GUI shown in the screen capture in the PRS-600 User Manual, presumably for Sony eBook Library 3.0, looks exactly the same as the 2.5 I have now. I think there may be new functionality (and Mac/Linus support) but the GUI looks the same if it was 3.0 in the new device's manual.

But in the meantime, better alternative showed up. Too late !
And iTunes is personae non grata on my pc because of the no linux support (among other things)

Well, those books aren't exactly illegal. They would have to check the binaries to see if the DRM has been stripped

They are unlikely to be able to sue but they can suppress ability to remove DRM.

To remove the DRM, great majority of us will first need to find tools to do that. Not only is it illegal to remove DRM, it is illegal to write, distribute and in some places "discuss" tools for DRM removal - http://www.zeropaid.com/news/86758/f...ing-about-drm/

Maybe Dr. Drib the Moderator, can comment on this: when someone posts links to DRM removal tools on this here forum, how long on average will these links survive?

For as long as it takes someone to report the post and us to remove the link. Please don't post such links!
