The Register review of 4 ebook readers

They've reviewed the iLiad the BeBook, the CyBook and the PRS 505 - the review is aimed at the UK market, hence no Kindle etc.

The Sony won - ease of use and appearance pushed it ahead of the CyBook. The iiad was third - losing out on price, weight and lack of a bookmark feature; and the BeBook lost (how it handles mobipocket and epub was cited as the main reason).

It's interesting that the topic of dictionary support was not even discussed. I wonder, with the slim edge they gave the Sony, if the Cybook would have "won" if they had included that parameter in their evaluation.

I suspect the Sony would still have had a slight lead in that review based on (percieved) ease of use and appearance/style/feel. But it may have been even closer.

A very fair review, I think, and I can't disagree with the conclusions. A few very minor factual errors (eg the Sony does not support HTML, as stated), but I'd agree with the overall conclusions - the Sony wins with build quality and ease of use, and the CyBook is "tops" for high-quality eBook formatting.

I must admit, I did use that article as a bit of eBook publicity via my Facebook feed

For my personal preference, Sony also wins.
And Bebook comes second.
Iliad third, only due to it's pricetag.
If it wasn't for the price, Iliad would be first to second.
and maybe the cybook last...

Quite fair I thought, but having pointed out the fact that learning too much about book formats saps the will to live, then kind of avoided the fact that to get anything like the same amount of up to date (read drm) content for the sony one would have to jump through hoops and learn a lot about formats. :-)
