Sony 950 won't connect to Macbook
When I attach the usb cable between the 950 and my macbook the 950 says 'Charging Stopped' and the macbook don't show any connected device.
I read in a thread that some had the same issue with Windows 7, while the 950 connected fine with XP. Any thoughts? I have Macbook late 2009 running Snow Leopard. |

Do you have the Sony Library software for Mac installed?
I helped a friend with this problem tonight, and we both 1. installed the Sony Reader Library for Mac, and 2. turned off the wireless switch on the bottom of the reader. After that, it connected. |

I have installed Sony Reader Library for Mac and turned off wireless. But it doesn't connect. What version of the Apple OS are you running? I am having a hard time figuring this out. It should work..

My friend's laptop runs OS X. That's the one we got it to connect to tonight.
Sorry I don't have more to offer. I'm sure one of the experts will be along soon to help. Last edited by doreenjoy; 12-27-2010 at 05:29 AM. |

Just to be sure... you have tried the obvious, different cable and different port... and are you using a hub, I've had problems with hub connection, some worked fine others don't and you need to connect direct in that case...

I think I have tried the obvious. It's not the cable. And I tried both usb ports on my macbook - which are both usb 2.0 and have worked fine with other devices. When my 950 has charged a while on my friends notebook I will try a firmware update. Thanks for your thoughts, the both of you. Any other suggestions are still very welcome! |

This is going to sound silly, but did you try restarting the Mac? When it's back on, plug in the Reader without opening the software and see what happens.

I forgot to mention: when I install Reader Library I get an error message called RunEBL quit unexpectedly. At the same time Reader Library installer says that the installation was successful. I did a search for RunEBL and found this old post on macworld: http://forums.macworld.com/index.php...rary-software/ furthest down it says PROBLEM SOLVED ! Since the Sony chat help and their email support didn't resolve my problem, only suggesting that I call them (which I usually don't want to), and since the error complained about CAD engl language wasn't available, I looked into eBook Lib package content and surely, it wasn't there. SO I switched from my Canadian English OS support to US and problem was resolved. So anyone having same problem and runs different language mode, check this option. It is obvious insensitivity of Sony team to international customers. On the other hand, I do like the new library, much more elegant than Colibri that I have used for last 2 years (no offense ment for the developer, it served me well. wbarek Not sure if it is relevant for me. And what it means. Changing the system language on my OS maybe? In that case it didn't work. Still get the error message. Last edited by varmemester; 12-27-2010 at 11:26 AM. |

I am sorry that you are having problems. The info on system language is interesting. When you do a reinstall of the Reader Library for Mac, one of the things a Sony tech recommended to somebody else was to make sure that you set the language to US Computer rather than just US. Go to System Preferences > International > Language. Worth a try.

In Language I choose U.S. English (there is no US computer available). In Formats I choose United States (Computer) In Input sources I have tried U.S, U.S Extended and U.S International - PC I have also tried to do a hard reset. Nothing works. I still get the error message when i install Reader Library. And the 950 isn't recognized. : |

I don't have Snow Leopard. I have 10.5.8 so the System Preference settings are different, and I only had 2 language options. One that was US and one that was US Computer. Sorry that didn't help you.

I had the same problem on my 13" MacBook and PRS-950. I originally tried through USB hub with no luck. The solution for me was that only one macbook USB port seemed to function properly with the reader. It was the most aft port (next to mini-display port). Hope this helps.

Same issue - not connecting to 13" macbook pro
Just got a 950cs - it connected fine to my iMac G5 running tiger, but will connect to neither USB port on my 13" MacBook pro running Snow Leopard 10.6.5 - I wonder what it could be?

I have some email correspondence going with sony, which so far only can suggest a soft reset. I wrote them back that I had already done that but could not add that in the mail because of a 450 letter limit. I'll keep you posted if they come up with something. For now I have run out of ideas.. |

Disable the MacBook's IR Receiver (System Preferences, Security, General) and see if that makes a difference for you.
USB port inequality is a known-issue with some MacBooks. The reason is that the internal USB devices (camera, IR receiver, keyboard, touchpad) are on a hub with one of the ports, creating a potential overload. The configuration varies from model to model. Here are a couple articles; one old, one recent: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2008/05/the-macbook-all/ http://www.djtechtools.com/2010/07/1...rt-inequality/ I'm on a 13" MacBook Late 2008/Aluminum (not a MacBook Pro), with Snow Leopard (10.6.5). My 950 and 350 connect and charge seamlessly on either USB port. I even turned my IR receiver back on and the 950 still connected, but it might make a difference for you. |
